Description

Commission for :iconnindy:.

This picture illustrates a passage of ‘The 130 days’ [link] , a beautiful fanfiction written by Nindy, set during the time Vegeta spent at Capsule Corporation while waiting for the Namek spheres to reactivate (you may refer to episode 107 of Dragon Ball Z if you want to refresh your memory about that period :)).

Nindy asked me to depict a scene where the saiyan sits outside the spaceship, watching the stars. Bulma joined him, and they just sit together.

As she wrote me, she wished for “Vegeta and Bulma's sides to brush, without them intentionally touching each other - but just sitting together, something peaceful - when it's quiet and there's no talking, and it's just fine that way. Maybe Vegeta even looking a little lost, gazing up at the stars where he might still see stars belonging to his old planet that's long gone - but even though he'd never admit to it, it's alright because Bulma's there.”
I think her words are a very fitting description to what’s going on here.

I won’t tell you what happens next, nor what happened before in her story; I’ll just make a few considerations about this image itself.

I think the fact Bulma and Vegeta are sitting side by side, with nothing but a nearly imperceptible contact between their bodies, tells a lot about a deeper connection between them.

This picture can be read as a sort of reinterpretation of the classical scene of the “two lovers watching the stars” in a way that fits these two characters a lot, I think: they’re simply together, without kissing, hugging, whispering tender words or something – just near, with no need of speech nor touch. And since a long conversation doesn’t seem to be something you can expect from someone like Vegeta, I think this is a very delicate and beautiful way to portray them sharing some kind of ‘romantic’ moment as it may be for them.
No romantic attitude in a traditional way, but still something very intense they’re possibly starting to be aware of too.

So, well, I find it quite representative of their relationship – and you can imagine how much I enjoyed working on this request, too. ;)

Furthermore, I especially appreciate the idea of Vegeta looking above, as if he were constantly reaching out for something higher. It can be considered a sort of metaphor of his ambition.

:star: Possibly you’ve noticed that anchor-shaped galaxy on the upper left corner of the picture: as you can read in Nindy’s story, it is a galaxy belonging to planet Vegeta - and a reference to the symbol of saiyan race, too.

Please let me know your impressions about this piece if you wish and have some time: they always mean a lot to me! :)

As usual, I hope you enjoy this picture! :)
